CENTER & PERIPHERY
Creation of the new by itself is already quit a violent act, it is a violence towards already existing. The traces of this violence is quit visible on our public spaces, especially on its most areas. This violence pushed old monuments to move, literally move, from one place to another, from the center to periphery where they have been replaced by “new” signifiers” of the space. For example new parliament building on the place of old monument of heroes died in WWII, or the sculptures of Great kind Davit in the center of Tbilisi and Kutaisi, where they have been replaced by the “New” hotel in Tbilisi or the “New” fountain in Kutaisi... and many more example such as these one...
This picture of King David sculpture standing on the big track car instead of its usual pedestal, in the center of the city and moving in the periphery, outskirts of the city shows that things having a problem to get into history, become part of the knowledge and signify certain period of time, rather they are perceived almost like half alive idols, that can be loved or hated, that should be worshiped or destroyed. Shortly, the relationship with them is too personal. That is why when the new times brought new energy (after 2003), new desire for building up and change, this new things didn't just find new places but they push the old ones out, they replace them, they rendered them as being old fashion and sending them into the periphery from the central places. The old ones has been kind of exiled from the center where “new” signifiers has been erected.
